The Notification Post FAQ

What is a notification post?

The notification post is something we made up at [community profile] kradamadness to help people keep up with comment-work updates.

The mods keep track of all comment-works posted to the comm, and twice a day, they update the list at the current prompt post to help our members keep track of what's being posted where. Every time they update the list, they also reply to the notification post with the updates - linking to all updated stories, art, etc. If you choose to track the post, you will receive notification emails for those comments.

Update: As of August 2011, mods will no longer be updating the comment-work notification post. We now have a new post up for authors/creators to post notifications themselves.

How often are the updates?

Once or twice a day, depending on how busy the prompt post is at the time.

We try not to spam by posting too often.

Update: As of August 2011, mods will no longer be updating the comment-work notification post. We now have a new post up for authors/creators to post notifications themselves. The new post may be updated several times a day, depending on how many new comment-works have been posted that day.

Why don't I just track the fic threads?

If you track the thread of the fic you're reading, you'll receive a notification for every comment posted there, including the feedback comments. Our way is much cleaner.

We also prefer to give people this alternative because when the only solution is to track fic threads, readers feel discouraged to post feedback so as not to spam those that are tracking. And that defeats the purpose of our prompt post. We don't want anything, directly or indirectly, to get in the way of reader/writer interaction there.

The only drawback of using the notification post is that you won't be getting instant notifications. They'll be approximately 12 hours apart.

Update: As of August 2011, mods will no longer be updating the comment-work notification post. We now have a new post up for authors/creators to post notifications themselves. The updates at the new post will most probably be instantaneous, but they will not be completely reliable. It will be up to the author/creator to post the update. The mods will not interfere.

What is tracking?

Here's the official FAQ.

You can track a journal, a community, a post, or a thread. You can track posts by tags, you can track first level comments, you can track all comments posted to a community, etc. What happens when you track something is that Dreamwidth sends you an email notification when a new comment/post that fits your specifications has been posted.

All account types, including OpenID, can use the tracking function. If this is the first time you're going to use it, you should make sure that your email address is valid, and that you can receive emails from Dreamwidth.

How do I track the notification post?

You can track the notification post by clicking here.

Update: As of August 2011, mods will no longer be updating the comment-work notification post. We now have a new post up for authors/creators to post notifications themselves. You can track that post by clicking here.

The link will take you to this page:

Make sure the ticky boxes are ticked as shown - when someone comments on the notification post and by email - and then hit "save".

If that doesn't work, go to the notification post new notification post and click the little bell thing - - or the text link that reads "TRACK", tick the ticky box that says "when someone comments on this post" and hit SAVE CHANGES.

If you got it right, the bell thingy will turn to this: . The text link will now read UNTRACK.

I'm curious about something else...
